FLORENCIA PITA BIOGRAPHY

Florencia Pita mod is a collaborative practice that thrives for the mannerist use of digital technology. As new modes of design and production are more involved with new technologies, the firm intends to focus in the underlying mechanisms of overlaying forms.

Florencia Pita is an architect who has been engaged in practice, teaching and research of architecture at large. She graduated in 1998 from the National University of Rosario, School of Architecture, degree: Licensed Architect, in 1999 she was awarded the 2000 Fulbright-Fondo Nacional de las Artes Scholarship to pursue studies at Columbia University and in 2001 she received her Masters Degree from Columbia University, AAD Program. Pita received the first prize in the 2001 Metro Design Plaza International Competition, Lexington-Kentucky and has been recipient of the Graham Foundation Grand Award. Her work has been published in Log, Architecture Record, A+U, Surface Magazine, among others. She is the co-editor of the upcoming Log 17. Moreover she has been part of numerous exhibitions, from solo exhibitions in institutions such as SCI-arc Gallery and LAxART gallery, to Group Exhibitions at the Chicago Art Institute the 2007-08 Shenzhen-Hong Kong Biennial of Urbanism and Architecture in China and Artist Space in New York. Her work is also part of the permanent collection of the MAK Museum in Vienna. Her upcoming solo installation at the new architecture wing of the Chicago Art Institute will open in 2010.

She is currently Full time Design Faculty at Sci-Arc teaching in the Undergraduate and Graduate design studios as well as Visual Studies instructor of advanced software. She is also Visiting Faculty at Lund University, Sweden.

Pita’s work experience includes the offices of Greg Lynn FORM (where she participated in the World Trade Center Design Competition as part of United Architects), Eisenman Architects and Asymptote.

JULIA KOERNER BIOGRAPHY

Julia Körner has received her master degree in architecture with honors in Greg Lynn’s masterclass at dieAngewandte, Vienna, Austria, in June 2009. Julia’s current research and design ambitions are focused on bioclimatic building-systems and enigmatic spatial effects inspired by nature and biology. Previously she worked as a Designer at Ross Lovegrove Studio in London and at the office of Gage and Clemenceau Architects in New York. As well she took part in project realizations in Vienna and Johannesburg during her studies at the Technical University, Vienna. Julia has been student assistant in Greg Lynn studio during her studies at dieAngewandte and she was teaching assistant for Postgraduate Studio ‘Excessive’ of Hernan Diaz Alonso. Further she was teaching workshops at the Department of Theoretical and Applied Aesthetics at Lund University, Sweden. Recently Julia has been awarded with MAK Schindler Scolarship Architects in residency program for independent research project together with Adam Vukmanov in Los Angeles.
